Monitor calibration

Professional monitor calibration with the Spyder2 Pro. - Now available for rental.

For a good view of the pictures on this site, your monitor should be correctly adjusted.

Simple adjustment

The picture below should look like a "rainbow", with smooth transitions between the different colors. If this is not the case, you should check the settings of your computer. Put your graphical card in the highest possible mode (32 bits / millions of colors).

In the picture below, all separate black and white tints should be clearly visible. Black should be as dark as possible, while white should resemble real white (not some kind of yellow or blue). This can be adjusted with the contrast and brightness settings of your screen.

Professional monitor calibration with the Colorvision Spyder2

For photo editing, you probably want more. To really have your pictures printed as you wish, you must be able to trust on your monitor. The only possibility to achieve this is the use of a piece of hardware for screen calibration. In that case, not only your color transitions and contrast are set correctly, it also corrects your white balance and sets your screen for neutral whites and grey.

I for myself bought the Colorvision Spyder2. And I am very happy with it. The Spyder2 easily calibrates CRT or LCD/TFT screens.

After the calibration is finished, the software shows you how your monitor was adjusted. With a sample picture it comes clear how this picture was shown on your screen before and after calibration. More information on the Spyder2 can be found on the Colorvision website.

Rent this equipment

Buying a monitor calibrator like the Spyder2 is pretty expensive. And you don't have to calibrate your monitor very often as long as you don't change its settings. That's too bad... For most people it makes it unattractive to buy this piece of equipment.

For these people, I am happy to offer the use of my Spyder2 with the "Pro version" of the calibration software for a small price. A laptop computer may be calibrated instantly at my home. For desktop computers, you will have to rent the Spyder2 one or two days. However, to use my Spyder, you must live nearby Deventer (The Netherlands), because I will not send the instrument by mail.
